What is serabit el khadim?

Serabit el-Khadim is an ancient Egyptian mining and temple site located in the Sinai Peninsula, near the city of Abu Zenima. It was an important center of turquoise mining during the Middle Kingdom period (around 2000 BCE). The site contains numerous inscriptions and reliefs with references to the goddess Hathor, who was worshiped there. The site was rediscovered in the early 20th century by British archaeologist Flinders Petrie, who led several excavations there between 1904 and 1905. The discoveries made at Serabit el-Khadim helped shed light on ancient Egyptian mining practices and the religious beliefs of the time. Today, the site is open to visitors and is a popular destination for tourists interested in ancient Egypt.
